If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts. (Psalm 94)
The Gospels in Lent have been especially chosen for our instruction, thus we can read today’s Gospel about Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman by the well and ask ourselves: “What can I learn from this?”
Famously, Mother Teresa of Kolkata had a vision relating to this Gospel and, from it, began her great mission of charity. She saw Jesus in the form of a beggar saying, “I thirst.”
Today we live in a society which thirsts for truth, goodness and righteousness, but we struggle to discern real life-giving truth from all the conflicting ideologies which surround us. This Gospel does provide us with a sure guide: “God is spirit, and those who worship must worship in spirit and truth.”
Jesus himself is the way, the truth and the life.
