Gospel Reflection for the Second Sunday of Christmas, Year A

Gospel Reflection for the Second Sunday of Christmas, Year A

The Word was made flesh and lived among us. (Psalm 147)

As the Gospel of John begins, so much is explained to us, yet remains a mystery.

The concept of the Word – Jesus – being with God, and being God, defies human logic. That the Word was with God in the beginning, and everything came to be through him, requires a lifetime of quiet contemplation.

These words are the basis for our faith. The Word is the true light, enlightening all who bask in that light. Jesus came into the world because he loved us and wanted to be among us, but many people rejected that love.

Yet, “from his fullness we have, all of us, received.”

The greatest gift we could possibly be given: being children of God, loved unconditionally, with the capacity to share that love with others unconditionally.

In this new year, may that be our goal.
