The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. (Psalm 22)
Today’s story of the healing of the man born blind is a complete dramatic play in three acts. The blind man’s encounter with Jesus and the healing is followed by a his poignant showdown with the Pharisees in the temple, the conclusion a sublime final meeting with Jesus.
We Christians of the 21st century need the faith and courage of the healed man to confront corruption in our contemporary society, particularly the corruption of our youth. We also need his conviction and eloquence to call out collective sin and guilt. We have the reassurance from this Gospel that Jesus favours and rewards courage. He sought out and rewarded the blind man with not only the gift of sight, but with the dazzling insight of His divinity.
Lord, that I may see!
