Let the Lord enter; he is king of glory. (Psalm 23)
This Advent we anticipate something new coming into our lives.
Advent is like a religious pilgrimage. The journey there is a religious exercise of waiting and anticipation. The arrival is a joyful relief, a spiritual experience to ponder and savour and the return is a satisfying joy that forms long memories.
We remember Mary and Joseph anticipating the approaching birth. Mary is able to feel the divine infant moving within her. I like to think that this is not a spiritual experience that Mary feels, but rather the plain human joy that every mother feels when her infant moves and kicks within her. Something new is coming into her life and we share her anticipation 2000 years later.
