Happy the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is theirs! (Matthew 5:3)
In today’s Gospel, Matthew recounts how Jesus imparted a key message of the New Testament. The Beatitudes are the values of the Kingdom of God, which Jesus came to bring.
On the surface, they do not look likely to prevail over the strong or violent of this world, or to bring any peace or happiness. Their strength lies in being lived each day -and in all the varied circumstances that life throws at us – because, behind the word of God lies the kingdom, the glory and the power of Christ’s victory over evil.
We live and triumph by his grace.
