You are a priest forever, in the line of Melchizedek. (Psalm 109)
Jesus feeding the five thousand with five loaves and two fish is a story featured in all four gospels, thus indicating its importance – a foreshadowing of the Eucharist – and leads us to reflect seriously on the main points.
First of all, Jesus feeds the hungry people miraculously. They are first arranged in groups, then they are not merely fed, but they are fed abundantly. The remaining scraps fill twelve baskets.
The Eucharist is our food, our manna from heaven, and it is Jesus who gives us Himself as our food. Mere creatures that we are, we eat Jesus, body, blood, soul and divinity.
How blessed are we!
