Passion of the Earth Artwork on Display at Monastery

Passion of the Earth Artwork on Display at Monastery

St. Brigid’s Day, February 1, is a national holiday in Ireland. To celebrate this patron saint, the Benedictines at Kylemore Abbey are inviting all who visit the estate to spend time in Ostyn Hall at the Monastery of the Immaculate Conception, where the Passion of the Earth is on display.

The work of American artist Melanie Weidner, the Passion of the Earth is a series of seven colorful visualizations of the creation narrative – accompanied by reflections designed to inspire the Benedictine practice of lectio divina – that both echoes the Passion of Christ as well as God’s passion in creating this beautiful world as an expression of divine love.

Living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the artist graciously granted permission to the Benedictines at Kylemore Abbey to share this artwork as part of their efforts to raise environmental awareness. The series was originally commissioned by the Center for Benedictine Life at the Monastery of St. Gertrude, Cottonwood, Idaho, USA.

The artwork will be on display into the spring.
