The Romanian Association of Music Performers (UCIMR) held the First Edition of the ICon Arts Ireland Academy from May 1-4 at Kylemore Abbey, part of the 24th Edition of the ICon Arts Transylvania Academy.
During the Kylemore event, masterclasses were organized in:
• Chamber Music — coordinated by Adrian Mantu, Andreea Banciu and Aileen Cahill
• Violin — coordinated by Remus Azoitei
• Composition — coordinated by Dan Dediu
Adrian Mantu (cello), Andreea Banciu (viola), Aileen Cahill (piano) and Cristina Tegzeșiu (oboe) also formed the ensemble in residence supporting the composition programme.
For the concert on 3 May, Adrian Mantu, Andreea Banciu and Aileen Cahill presented a programme combining classical repertoire with chamber music student Ioana Pavel (violin), alongside world premiere performances by composers George Pais, Mihnea Stroe and Caterina Schembri, together with oboist Cristina Tegzeșiu.
A special highlight was the premiere of Ora et Labora, a work for solo oboe collaboratively created by the three composers together with Dan Dediu, dedicated to Mother Karol O’Connell.
For the concert on 4 May, the violin class delighted the audience with performances of works by:
• Beethoven — Ana Irimia
• Tchaikovsky — Rareș Sandu
• Lalo — Sofia Belei
• Wagner — Audrey Au
• Enescu — Chloe Bowers-Soriano
The concert concluded with Remus Azoitei performing Saint-Saëns, all with the excellent support of collaborative pianist Clementina Ciucu.
