Gospel Reflection on the Baptism of the Lord

The Lord will bless his people with peace (Psalm 28).

Luke tells us in his account of Jesus’ baptism that upon being baptized Jesus went and prayed. It is this description of the Lord’s baptism that theologians favour most because it is deeply contemplative.  While quietly at prayer, the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus as a dove and a heavenly voice affirmed him as the Father’s beloved Son.

Here is an important message for all believers at this time in the world’s history when this pandemic is raging. We too must go aside quietly to pray and pray fervently, perhaps as never before. Then the Holy Spirit can descend on each of us and our suffering brothers and sisters, confirming us as God’s children.
